Qwest has used two different DSL transmission protocols, CAP and DMT. CAP is the older protocol, and has not been used for new DSL lines for several years. You will only have a CAP line if you have had your Qwest DSL line since before mid-2001 and have not upgraded your DSL line since then. DMT is the newer protocol, and has been used for all new and upgraded DSL lines since mid-2001.
The Cisco 675 DSL router can only handle the older CAP protocol. The Cisco 678 can handle either CAP or DMT, depending on how your DSL line itself is provisioned. If your DSL line type changes (for example, by upgrading your DSL line speed), the Cisco 678 must be upgraded to match the new DSL line type.
Please make sure that you use the correct set of setup instructions for your DSL line type.
