Mac OS 9 Dialup Support

Mac OS 9.x includes all the software you need to establish a dialup connection to the Internet through ipHouse.

Before following these instructions, please make sure that you have a modem installed in your Apple Macintosh computer or an external modem correctly connected, Mac OS 9.0 or later installed, and the username and password you chose when you set up your ipHouse Dialup account.

Running the Network Setup Assistant

The Internet Setup Assistant is an application which Apple provides as part of the operating system to assist you in setting up dialup and other network connections.

To run the Internet Setup Assistant, find its icon in the "Internet" folder of your hard drive, and double-click on the icon.

The first step is naming your new network configuration. We suggest "ipHouse".

The next step is telling your Mac how to connect to our network. Select "Modem" by clicking on the round radio button next to it.

If you use a DSL modem, then you should be following the instructions for Setting up a DSL Connection instead.

Click on the "right arrow" button to continue...

The Internet Setup Assistant should have already selected the built-in internal modem for you, if your Mac has one. Otherwise, select your modem type (or the closest available) from the pop-up menu.

Select the port which your is connected to from the pop-up menu, either "Internal Modem" for an internal modem, or "Modem Port" for an external modem (or "Printer Port" if your external modem is connected to the printer port for some reason).

Finally, select whether your phone line uses tone or pulse dialing.

The Phone Number for our modems is "612-344-5525".

Your dialup User Name is the username you chose when you set up your ipHouse Dialup account, followed by "@iphouse.com".

For example, "tokugawa@iphouse.com".

Enter the password you chose (or were given) when you set up your account in the Password field. It must be entered exactly, uppercase and lowercase letters are different.

Click on the "right arrow" button to continue...

The ipHouse mail server, and most modern e-mail clients, do not support the concept of a POP account address. Leave this field blank.

(When you set up your e-mail client, you will need to configure it with both your e-mail address and an incoming mail server name instead.)

Enter "smtp.iphouse.com" as the SMTP Host.

Click on the "right arrow" button to continue...

Check the box next to "Connect when finished".

Click on the "Go Ahead" button to finish setting up the connection. Your Mac should now use your modem to call ipHouse and establish a dialup network connection.

Troubleshooting

If the connection fails, go back to the PPP control panel and double check all your settings. Your Account Name must be your full e-mail address, "username@iphouse.com". Your password must be entered exactly, uppercase and lowercase letters are different. Make sure that your modem is connected correctly if its an external type, and that you can make a voice phone call on the phone line your modem is on.

If you've double checked everything and the connection still fails, please contact one of our technical support staff and we'll be happy to help you troubleshoot.
