Changing your Account Settings

You must be running version 5.0.6 of Outlook Express. Versions prior to this do not support authenticated SMTP, and will not work with your ipHouse account. If you are running an earlier version, download Outlook Express 5.0.6 for Mac.

If you have used Outlook Express before for another mailbox, then you will need to change your account settings for Outlook Express to handle your ipHouse mailbox.

If your existing e-mail account is POP and you'd prefer to handle your incoming e-mail via IMAP instead, or vice-versa, then you will need to add a new account instead.

To change your account settings, start by pulling down the "Tools" menu, then select "Accounts".

Next, click on the "Mail" tab. Select your e-mail account in the accounts list, and click on the "Edit" button at the top of the window.

First, name this account. We recommend using your e-mail address.

Enter your Full Name, and E-mail Address. Your e-mail address is normally the username you chose when you set up your ipHouse account, followed by "@iphouse.com".

For example, "tokugawa@iphouse.com".

Enter your e-mail address again as your Account ID.

Enter the POP/IMAP Server, either "pop.iphouse.com" for POP access, or "imap.iphouse.com" for IMAP access.

Enter the password you chose (or were given) when you set up your account. It must be entered exactly, uppercase and lowercase letters are different.

Check the box next to "Save password" if you want Outlook Express to remember your account password for you.

Enter "smtp.iphouse.com" as the SMTP Server.

Click on the "Click here for advanced sending options" button, found below the SMTP Server field.

Check the box next to "SMTP server requires authentication".

Select "Use same settings as incoming mail server".

SSL is an OPTIONAL security protocol which uses encryption to protect your login and other sensitive information between your computer and our servers. While we recommend using SSL to encrypt your connection to the mail server, it is not required. Enabling SSL may cause unnecessary problems authenticating to our servers. If you experience problems authenticating, disable SSL encryption and please notify support about your problem. Be sure to include what e-mail program and version you're using so that we know which programs are not working with our servers.

To configure Outlook Express to use SSL when sending e-mail, check the box next to "SMTP service requires a secure connection (SSL)".

Click on the small square close button in the upper left corner of the pop-up pane to continue...

To configure Outlook Express to use SSL when retrieving e-mail, first click on the "Click here for advanced receiving options" button, found below the Password field.
